Why Can’t We Use VENMO?

We know how annoying it is that you can’t use Venmo to order or donate to Edgemont. We thought an explanation might help. Basically, Venmo is not compatible with non-profit charity organizations and we will lose our tax break if we use it.

The platform is not able to issue tax-compliant receipts and therefore the platform is not a viable option for online charity donations. They are not tax compliant for non-profits. If we continued to use Venmo, it will jeopardize the PTA’s 501(c)3 nonprofit tax status. We definitely do NOT want that status to be taken away from us!

The issue is with Venmo, not with PTA. Venmo does not want the PTA to use Venmo at this time and are actively looking for nonprofits that are still using it. They are currently working on a nonprofit version of the platform, and they are in beta testing with a few organizations, but PTA is unfortunately not one of them. We are so sorry for any inconvenience that this causes you. We really wish the situation were different. So, moving forward…

The best alternative we have found is PayPal. It is an established, very secure form of payment. They offer a substantial discount on their fees for non-profit organizations. So please take 5 minutes to download the PayPal app and sign in with your current PayPal login. Then you don’t need to worry about it any more. Its just as easy as Venmo after you take just a few minutes to download the app and set it up.

We also have a credit card reader available if you don’t want to signup for PayPal. We will have this available at the Fund Run and the Extravaganza, but if you want to skip the lines, please just download the app. Cash and check (in a sealed envelope with the purpose clearly stated) are also always accepted in the office.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING!!!
